At Desbrosses, in the Ritz-Carlton Berlin, Chef Aharoni cooked Jewish food and shared his knowledge about it. And event to taste and enjoy in a perfect location.

Chef Aharoni kochte jüdische Gerichte und teilete ihre Rezepte mit dem Publikum in Desbrosses, in Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Israel Aharoni is a popular Tv chef in Israel. In his show he showcases the food cooked by the different ethnic groups living in Israel.

Comic layouts in Urban Sketching

Later I have been drawing using little boxes like in cartoons. It is something I am trying right now and it is quite useful. I got the idea after seeing one of Miguel Herranz (Barcelona) sketchbooks. I know his work for a long time but seeing one of his sketchbooks is something that strikes like an explosion: All those drawings at the same time, it is too much beauty and skills put together!  You don't find any bad drawings!

The cartoons windows are very useful in creating storytelling pages. I will start marking the corners with dots to have an idea of the limits of the layout. I don't really know at the beginning how it would look like. I will start drawing a line of the left side of the square  and then start drawing trying not to draw outside my imaginary box.  Sometimes my image is bigger so I continue drawing and do a rectangle instead of a square. Once the the first box is ready, that give me hints how to create a balanced layout. and I will do bigger boxes or a serie of smaller boxes, where I will draw details or thumbnails.

In letzter Zeit nutze ich kleine Kisten wie in Cartoons Layouts. Ich hatte die Idee nach ich Miguel Herranz (Barcelona) Skizzenbücher gesehen habe. Seit langer Zeit verfolge ich seine Arbeit. Aber wenn man seine Bücher blätter ist eine andere Erfahrung. Alle diese schöne Zeichnungen zusammen in ein Buch! Es gibt keine schlechte Zeichnungen!

Die Cartoon-Rahmen sind sehr hilfreich, um erzählerische Seite zu erzeugen. Am Anfang markiere ich nur die Ecken mit Punkte. Dann zeichne ich mit zwei Linien eine Ecke. Ich weiß nicht genau wie es am Ende aussehen werde. Während ich den Inhalt zeichne, verlängert ich die Rahmen Grenze. Wenn das erste Rahmen fertig ist, ist es leichter zu vorstellen wie die andere Rahmen Aussehen werden. Ich werde ein großer Rahmen oder eine Serie von kleine Rahmen wo ich einzelne Elemente zeichnete.

Zweistimmig: Giora Feidman & Ben Becker

It was pure delight to hear this two guys together: Giora Feidman virtuoso playing and Ben Beckers voice. They took us to a ride through the poetry of Paul Celan at the Sinagoge Rickestrasse.

Es war pure Freude beide Künstler zusammen in der Synagoge Rickestrasse zu sehen. Giora Feidman virtuese Musik und Ben Beckers Stimme. Sie haben uns zu eine Reise durch das Leben und Gedichte von Paul Celan mitgenommen.

Street Festival "Shu Ha' Carmel in Berlin"

Last Sunday as part of the Jewish Culture days there was a street festival in front of the Community Center in the Fasanenstrasse in Berlin. Although the name refers to the famous market in Tel-Aviv, it has nothing to do  with the original, but it is a nice excuse to eat some Jewish and middle eastern dishes.

Letzte Sonntag gab es einen Straßenfest vor die Jüdische Gemeindezentrum in Fasanenstrasse in Berlin. Der Strassenfest sieht zwar gar nicht wie der berühmter Markt in Tel-Aviv aus , aber es war eine gute Gelegenheit Köstlichkeiten aus der Jüdische Küche und Orient zu essen.


I went with my school friend Andres. (From the German School in Guayaquil) He lives now in Hamburg and was visiting Berlin for the weekend.

Jüdische Kulturtage in Berlin

It is August again and the Jewish Culture days just started yesterday. This is my third time reporting the event with my drawings. The opening concert was stunning with a combination of beautiful voices and instruments that while  showing the diversity in Jewish culture, put you on the right mood for was is coming in the next days. Es ist August wieder und die Jüdische Kulturtage sind seit gestern wieder da. Das ist das drittes Mal, dass ich diese Veranstaltung zeichne. Das Eröffnungskonzert war wunderbar mit eine Kombination aus Stimmen und Instrumenten. Sie zeigten die Diversität der jüdische Kultur. Es war die richtige Stimmung um das Publikum für das buntes Programm der nächsten Tagen zu vorbereiten.

The Synagogue Rykestrasse is the perfect Space for such an event.

There were many beautiful scenes.

I drew with a sepia Pitt Pen and I added a wash of watercolor later.

Ich habe mit einem Sepia Stift (Faber-Castell Pitt Pen) und später habe ich ein paar Lavierungen zugefügt.

Jüdische Kulturtage: Abschlusskonzert Pianisten Nacht

Jazz has always been my favorite music for sketching. It gets inside me and without noticing, it starts to influence the way I draw. I get looser and tend to improvise. I have to say, that this was a fantastic concert.

I love the space in the Synagoge Rykerstrasse.

Und die Jüdische Kulturtage sind wieder da! Gestern war ich bei einem sehr interessanten Gespräch. Buchautor  Ron Leshem (Israel) unterhält sich mit Graphic-Novel-Autor Hamed Eshrat (Iran) über ihre Generation. Das Gespräch würde moderiert bei Shelly Kupferberg

Ron Leshem letzte Roman hat Iran als Kulisse. Seine Recherchen hat er über Iranische Facebook Freunde gemacht. Hamet Eshrat Graphic Novel erzählt über die Iranische Revolution und seinen Familienschicksal.

Es war ein interessantes Gespräch, wo sehr deutlich war, dass viele positive und negative Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen beide Länder gibt.

Die Leute warten bis es anfängt.

Amsterdam Klezmer Band

The closing event of the "Jüdische Kulturtage" (Jewish culture days) in Berlin put every body to dance. I am very happy of this set of drawings, you can see clearly how the music influences my work.

In the first one we are just getting warm. The musicians still with their jackets and I using predominantly lines rather than color.

In the second drawing you can see how everything is getting loose.. the music is getting into the soul.

In the third one we went crazy.. just color .. only a brush can paint so fast...

It was a wonderful concert. Giora Feidman enchanted us with his music and his charm.

I realized too late that my place was not the best for drawing...

...but I also got very interesting views

In front of the Centrum Judaicum in Oranienburger street there is a reading marathon conducted by pastor Felix Leibrock. Well known people read from the 3 sacred books.

Vor dem Centrum Judaicum auf der Oranienburgerstr. findet eine Lesemarathon statt. Prominente Leute lesen aus den drei heiligen Büchern.
